Residency for foreign artists
NexUs provides a fully-facilitated art residency for up-and- coming as well as established artists from around the world. Artists can apply for one-month, two, three or six-month- long Residencies.
The program is a great opportunity for artists as NexUs Culture Nepal is located in the thriving and exciting Kathmandu district of Patan (Lalitpur), very close to shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries as well as the artisan quarter. As NexUs hosts art programs throughout the year, many creative people from around the country visit to give talks and attend exhibitions and film screenings so residencies provide the chance to interact with Nepal’s most dynamic, artistic talents. NexUs also hosts the successful Nepalese art activism community, LASANAA, lasanaa meaning “art” in Newari, the indigenous language of Kathmandu.
During the stay, artists will be provided with clean, spacious rooms (single or shared).
There is 24-hour WiFi Internet facility, electricity backup and running hot water in the rooms. Since NexUs also houses a restaurant, meals are available. Two artists will be sharing studio space during their stay in the residency.
Requirements from the artist’s part:
Artists are required to make time for the following activities during their stay:
- A presentation about the artist’s work at the start of the residency. The artist may also make a presentation on a different sub-topic of art.
- The artist has to facilitate a workshop for a group of younger artists or students. It is hoped that the artist facilitates an activity related to their specific practice.
- An exposition, which could be in the form of an exhibition of artworks created by the artist during the time of residency or a performance. Artists whose works are process dominant can give presentations on their work.
- Participating artist will have to sit for two critic sessions during the time of residency. LASANAA will be happy to provide artists with mentorship if need be.
A percentage of the fees for the residency will be used to fund fellowship residencies for young Nepali artists and students.
