Conversation with Leah Houston and Michael Burtt

A conversation was hosted at NeXus Culture Nepal, Bakhundol, Lalitpur with Leah Houston of MABELLEARTS and Michael Burtt Making Room Community Arts. They are one of the artists in residency of LASANAA at NeXus Culture Nepal. They weaved their ideas and concept while working at NeXus. They had conducted the workshop entitled “Winter Art Workshop for Children and Families” where they let the children and their families to explore their own imagination. An hour long interaction was a fruitful event to let us all know about their activities and their connection to Nepali communities. They also highlighted their process and their concepts while working on their art project at NeXus

Community Arts Training at NeXus Culture Nepal

Exploration of the ideas and creative thoughts hovers around where we step inside NeXus Culture Nepal at Bakhundol, Lalitpur. Leah Houston of MABELLEarts, Michael Burtt of Making Room Community Arts and Ashmina Ranjit of LASANAA are facilitating a two day training for artists and activists. This hands on training opportunity invites artists, activitst and non-profit workers to share and learn the experiences facilitating art activities with diverse groups. This training motivates to explore the ethics, aesthetics and challenges of community arts.

The capacity of collaboration and discovering the process of creativity is what this two day workshop focuses on. Involvement of artists for conveying the imaginative process to include the community is what this training all about.

Thursday Film and Wine Night

Every Thurday is the night of the art related film show at NeXus Culture Nepal. The film show is intended to make people aware of different art activities in and around Nepal. Different artist and art related events are showcased in the show. The feel of enjoyment in a cozy spaces in LASANAA at NeXus and watching the film makes us attentive about the artistic scenarios.

This Thurday the film of Marina Abramovic is in prime focus.. Marina Abramovic sure knows how to push boundaries; her latest autobiography has received divisive reviews and she is being sued by her former lover.Nevertheless Abramovic’s work- spanning over four decades- makes poignant statements about love, art and sex, crowning her “the mother of performance art.”

Takasera: A village with stories

A film entitled TAKASERA was screened in LASANAA at NeXus Culture Nepal, Bakhundol, Lalitpur. The film was created by a group of members of the NeXus community, Eva Pivač and Matjaž Pinter.

The film communicate the forgotten village which carries an equal significant is history of Magars. The village is hardly known to the people in and out of Nepal but it covers an interesting story. Taksera is the center of Kham Culture and a former Maoist stronghold which played an important role in the Maoist revolution that ended a decade ago.

An Exhibition of Photographs

Different meanings and the conversation evokes as we walk through the photographs displayed at NeXus Culture Nepal. A powerful visual perception can be sensed through the photographs of Abhishek Shah Nepali, a Nepali photographer and Uk graphic designer Matthew Magnus. Both Abhishek Shah Nepali and Matthew Magnus are LASANAA resident artists.

These photographs are the outcome of a collaborative project entitled ‘From the streets we walked, to the villages we went’ by Abhishek and Matthew. A story of different time and spaces are told through the lens. This amalgamation of two photographs from different countries and their thought process can be revealed through their work.
