Thursday Film and Wine Night: India’s Daughter
Introducing our weekly film and wine night, every Thursday night, leading up until Christmas.
First off the bat is the controversial BBC documentary, India’s Daughter.
Banned in India, the documentary delves into the 2012 Delhi gang rape and includes filmed interviews with Jyoti Singh’s parents and one of the six perpetrators.
Praised by some as a harrowing insight into gender inequality and sexual violence in India, the film has divided audiences with some Indian’s feminists calling the film “paternalistic”; at best.
Joining us and leading an informal post-film discussion is Puja Sen, an Indian journalist based in Kathmandu.
The free screening will start just after 7pm. As always, our books and arts cafe/bar will be serving beer, wine, tea and coffee. Village Cafe will be open to serve dinner and refreshments.
Hope to see you there for this must-see film.
